How do you cope with the stress and anxiety brought on by global events that seem far away yet hit close to home? The wars in Israel and Ukraine have had profound global implications, and their impact is felt acutely in the United States.
For many, the emotional toll of these conflicts leads to heightened anxiety as we grapple with the uncertainty and fear that such global instability generates. Whether due to personal or cultural ties to these regions, or the intensified divisions within American society election, this sense of unease is growing.
The recent presidential campaigns have only added to this anxiety, with the electorate more polarized than ever, misinformation on the rise, and the stakes of the election creating an atmosphere dominated by fear and uncertainty.
How can we manage the chronic stress that results from this overwhelming political climate?
One promising solution is mindfulness and meditation practices, particularly Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. The JewCrew of Verona, lead by Sarvenaz Singh, secured a grant through the interfaith division of the Jewish Federation of MetroWest to help create a workshop where participants can recognize and relieve their own internal stressors due to issues of political and religious division. The JewCrew of Verona has invited Allison Task, an award-winning life, spiritual, and career coach based in Montclair, to lead an MBSR and other mindfulness techniques at the Compound Coffeehouse in Verona, NJ. Known for supporting individuals through significant change, Allison’s workshops offer valuable tools for navigating stress and improving well-being.
In this context, mindfulness practices like MBSR can provide a powerful antidote to anxiety by teaching individuals to focus on the present moment and break the cycle of anxiety and catastrophic thinking. This event, generously funded by the interfaith division of The Jewish Federation of MetroWest, is open to the public, but participants must sign up to attend. Snacks and drinks will be served afterwards. There is limited seating, so please secure your spot today: Sign Up Here.
