Musicians Wanted for Our Zoom Simchat Torah Celebration

I know we have not fasted yet, nor have we built our Sukkot. But we can definitely use some extra joy these days so why not fast forward to Simchat Torah?

This year Shomrei will be celebrating the holiday virtually on Sunday, October 11 at 7:30 PM. As we mark the completion AND the beginning of reading the Torah, we would like to fill the occasion with live music.

Unfortunately, this year, we cannot hold each other and the Torahs close as we sing and dance between Hakafot. But look at it in a positive light – you can play your instrument from the comfort of your own home. No squeezing that tuba into a Volkswagon and lugging it to Shomrei.

Our congregation is blessed with two bands: the Park Street Band that plays monthly at Kabbalat Shabbat services and the Multi-Generational Simcha Band that performs on Chanukah and on Purim. If you are a musician in these bands, please sign up to participate.

If you are not a band member, but play an instrument or sing, we would love to have you join in the festivities, too. We need everyone to fill their squares and their screens with lively music that celebrates and honors our tradition. Please sign up to participate.

We are not looking for professional musicians, although if you are a professional, definitely join in the fun.  We are looking for families, children, teenagers – anyone who can enhance the joy of Simchat Torah by making music. Feel free to unmute during the musical interludes and share your voice. Be creative with your instruments and with the music you make.

We can provide the sheet music but if you have musical suggestions of your own, we are open to new ideas. For now, please contact Merrill Silver (email hidden; JavaScript is required) if you are interested or have any questions.  Merrill will coordinate the Hakafot into a live, seamless musical mosaic!

Thank you and an early Chag Sameyach to you!
