Shomrei Honors Rich Epstein and Susan Lazev

Rich Epstein and Susan Lazev are dedicated to providing for Shomrei’s current needs as well as those in the future. Both Rich and Susan have truly made a difference in many areas of our congregation.

Rich served as President of Shomrei from 2012 to 2014. As President, he worked tirelessly to put Shomrei on a firm financial footing by thinking large and paving the way for some daring decisions. He laid the foundation of the 20/20 Committee which recomended a new voluntary dues model for our membership. He was instrumental in the creation of the Shomrei Second Century Campaign, an endowment fund safeguarding the synagogue’s future. Rich spearheaded the creation of the Accounts Receivable Committee which succeeded in creating a secure financial footing for the synagogue.

Susan has long been involved in Shomrei’s efforts to enrich and reinvent the educational approach for our youth. Years ago, she established a Shabbat program for teens that lasted for some time. A well-respected and passionate educator, Susan helped guide the recent formation of the Shabbat school curriculum for our Jewish Learning Center (Hebrew School). She brought forth a vision of an innovative, experiential curriculum which allows each child to learn as an individual and begin a lifetime engagement with Jewish Learning.  She didn’t stop at building the vision—she has been an ongoing source of support and training for Shomrei’s faculty.  An ordained Rabbi, Susan has collaborated with Rabbi Greenstein as a rabbinic colleague from time to time.

The members of Congregation Shomrei Emunah are pleased to honor these dedicated and beloved members of our community.
