From Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

Last Tuesday night we welcomed 17 appreciative guests to the MESH Cafe at Shomrei. Lynne Kurzweil and Aileen Grossberg put together a remarkable meal. First course was homemade smoked whitefish salad with crackers and crudités followed by minestrone soup and homemade whole wheat challah. Main course was citrus glazed salmon, red cabbage slaw and farro pilaf with sautéed carrots, onions, red pepper, peas and mushrooms. Rounding out dessert was chocolate pudding and fresh fruit cup.

The remarkable part about this hearty, delicious and healthy meal is that the total additional out of pocket cost was $3.99! We were able to put everything together using leftovers from Shabbat kiddish, Quiz Night and other items we found in the freezer and refrigerator. $3.99 was the cost of fresh mushrooms for the pilaf. We even used Aileen’s etrog jam from Tub’shvat to glaze the Asian Salmon leftover from Quiz Night. Quite a cost effective coup if I do say so myself!

Adult volunteer Susan Rosenblatt was ready to help with any task including dishwashing. Amalia was back representing our Shomrei teens. Other youthful volunteers were Teddy, Khari and Josie from MHS, MSU Austrian exchange student Samira, Yale junior on an off semester Leonard and MSU intern Veronica. As always Adrienne and Joe from the MESH staff were helpful and efficient.

A good time was had by all, guests and volunteers included.

Healthy regards,
Lynne
