Mesh Cafe June 16, 2015

meshAnother successful night at Shomrei’s MESH Cafe. We served a full house of twenty guests who now applaud in anticipation at the mention of the evening’s menu. Linda Ariel graciously took the reins as Captain for the first time….Yasher Koach to Linda!

Lynne Kurzweil was chef preparing a starter of tuna salad with cuke slices, grape tomatoes and crackers. Next up, green salad with Italian dressing and garlic bread, followed by the main course of Arroz con Pollo, loaded with peas, carrots, string beans, limas and sliced okra. For dessert, we served fresh baked Blueberry/Strawberry Cobbler with Parve whipped topping.

Able assistance was provided by Arden Epstein, Sierra Wendeborn, Sebastian  and Sam, a small but mighty and efficient crew! Many thanks to all our helpers.

Notes:

1. To our Chefs: When planning the menu for an evening, it makes sense for us to repurpose any food leftover from the weekend, be it Shabbat Kiddush or other events. Aileen Grossberg generally has a handle on what’s in the frig. This week, the tuna fish appetizer and the base of the salad were created from weekend leftovers. This not only saves money but also does not allow food to go to waste (a shanda!).

2. We have 2 more MESH Cafes before we break for the summer, 6/23 and 6/30. Next week, 6/23, is fully staffed. We do need a cook and additional helpers for 6/30. If you are able to help out, please sign up on the MESH Googledoc:  http://www.shomrei.org/mesh

3. Don’t forget to RSVP to Lynne Kurzweil for the MESH Thank You Brunch, Sunday, June 28, at 11:30 am, at Lynne’s house.

4. Sorry, we forgot to take pictures at the MESH Cafe this week.
