We had a packed house serving 25 guests and three takeout meals. I did double duty as Captain/Chef with the able assistance of Sous Chef Arden Epstein and now seasoned Adult Helpers Erin Berman and Susan Rosenblatt. Our guests were treated to two beautifully played piano pieces courtesy of our Shomrei teen helper, Louis.

MESH 2 2016june 28MESH 3 2016june 28When the menu was announced at the beginning of the evening, there was applause! We were having salmon, after all, a crowd favorite. The starter was an eclectic mix, repurposing still fresh leftovers from the Shabbat kiddish – spanakopita, crudités and salsa. A hearty tossed green salad was next….our guests really enjoy the greens…accompanied by scrumptious homemade whole wheat challah from the kitchen of Erin Berman. Main course was Sweet Orange Salmon, roasted corn on the cob and a delicious chick pea salad with sun dried tomatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes and red onions. For dessert, fresh fruit and berries a la mode, with chocolate syrup, whipped cream and cake croutons.

Our guests were exuberant in their appreciation and gratitude for this wonderful, festive meal. To top it off, Arden made sure to include a takeaway goodie bag with healthy and tasty treats. Our wonderful MESH staffers, Adrienne, Bonny, Elijah and Dev are always friendly and help make our job a pleasure.

This past Tuesday night was our last MESH Cafe at Shomrei for the 2015-2016 program year.  MESH Partners take a break in July and August and we will resume again in September. MESH does support a summer cafe program, providing dinner 5 nights a week in two locations in Bloomfield.

Addendum to MESH report from 6/21/16:
Even without an official captain or cook, the evening turned out to be a success. Carlos, Erin Berman and Susan Rosenblatt, along with our teen helpers Amalia, Isaac, Gus and Louis, handled it all like pros. The catered meal included egg salad and pita chips, green salad, baked chicken cutlets, green beans and potatoes, clementines and cookies. MESH staffers Adrienne, Andi, Elijah and Dev, ensured that everything ran smoothly.
