Mesh Cafe April 3, 2018

From Captain Shirley Grill:

The awesome team of Chefs Lynne Kurzweil and Aileen Grossberg ensured that we had a spectacular Pesach meal for our 22 guests on Tuesday, April 3.  Aileen planned the meal and Lynne cooked all Monday, so everything was prepared for the small kitchen team of Aileen, Yael Webber (Shomrei’ s own JLC teacher on vacation!) and yours truly–serving as kitchen help and captain.  We were supported by the MESH team led by Adrienne, with servers Siobhan, Rebecca, Joe and Joe (security.)  And our custodian Kevin did kitchen cleanup.

IMG_0552The menu was fun–the theme was How many ways can you say Matzah!  The guests joined me in chanting Motzi as I recited the menu, which was:

Starter: Tuna with matzah crackers and Salsa with baby carrots and chips

Soup: Vegetarian Matzah ball soup (great matzah balls Lynne!), served with buttered Matzah

IMG_0557Main: Matzah Lasagna (so good—who would have thought it!), along with Cabbage Salad with mandarin oranges, almonds and Craisins

Desert: Cantaloupe and Jelly roll cake.

The food was so pretty that I sent some pictures of the Matzah Lasagna and the desert.

All and all a very good night, with a different twist…why is this night different from all others?

IMG_0555About MESH:
The MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
