From Captain Sarah Kravits:
JLC Night at MESH was a success! Captain Sarah Kravits, Cook Aimee Brooks, and Cook’s Helper Karen Greenwald put together a warm and filling meal for a chilly spring night, with the help of several excellent sous-chefs from the JLC. The first course was a flatbread with roasted mushrooms, peppers, and Mexican cheese. Next up was the main course of spinach lasagna, mixed green salad, and whole wheat challah rolls. The meal ended with ice cream sundaes, cookies, and brownies.
It was wonderful to see many JLC kids taking action to feed the hungry. Through this experience they learn more about food insecurity in our community. Abby, Collin, Delia, Eva, Hailey, Jordan, Josh, Natasha, and Olyvia cooked, plated, served, and cleaned — the whole nine yards. When it was ice cream sundae time, they went around individually adding chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, and M&Ms by request. The guests so appreciated their smiling faces and kindness.
We had a great group of more experienced volunteers as well who guided the JLC kids — teens Amalia, Davida, Josie, Louis, Max, Mikhail, and Teddy, and adult volunteer Susan Rosenblatt. MESH folks Adrienne, Bonny, Leonard, and Joe kept everything running smoothly. We really appreciate the time Adrienne spent in the kitchen training up our newest volunteers, making sure everyone was being safe and following the rules.
JLC parents, look for more JLC MESH nights in the future, and come bring your kids. Not only will they perform a mitzvah and have an important experience, but you may discover they know more about how to clean than you thought they did!
