From Captain Lynne Kurzweil

On a dark and stormy Tuesday night we welcomed 16 grateful guests to the MESH Cafe at Shomrei. Yours truly did the cooking along with top notch sous chefs Sarah and Charles Steindel.

First course was Very Veggie Tomato Soup with Chickpeas followed by from scratch Totally Creamy Mac & Cheese served with Salad Italiano, Garlic Toast and a taste of Spinach Quiche. Dessert was mini Creme Puffs with pineapple, cantaloupe and strawberries. Absolutely everyone had two bowls of soup and extras on the mac and cheese.

Tonight our divine and dependable teen helpers were Amalia, Davida and Teddy. We also had assistance from Noah, Morgan and Sarah, students from the Montclair Jewish Workshop and Jason, their chaperone for this evening. The MJW kids will be helping out every Tuesday night for the next few months as part of their culminating mitzvah project. The kids were so eager to help and added a special touch to the evening! MESH staffers were Adrienne, Bonny and Mary and of course, our wonderful MSU intern, China.

Lynne is a long-time Shomrei Congregant.She is co-chair of Shomrei's MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) which provides a hot dinner and respite for homeless individuals every Tuesday night. She is a registered dietitian and lives in Montclair with her husband, Lanny.
