From CaptainLynne Kurzweil:
We welcomed a full house of 24 guests plus 3 takeaways to our final MESH Cafe of the spring season. We will resume serving in September while our MESH guests can attend cafe at other houses of worship over the summer. Tonight Master Chef Aileen Grossberg prepared a sumptuous feast with the help of Yours Truly, Arden Epstein and young helpers Zaniah and Sarah. Also assisting with plating, serving and clean up were Alex Kent and Rachel Kanter.
The meal began with a colorful appetizer plate of crudités, chips, hummus and guacamole. A green salad preceded the main course of Jamie Oliver’s Crispy Chicken with tomatoes, potatoes, cannellini beans, garlic and fresh basil from Aileen’s garden (yum). A side dish of farro salad accompanied the main course in addition to a toasted garlic roll. Dessert was fresh cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries and blueberries with soy vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip cookie dippers. Several of our guests made a special point of thanking us for all we do every week and to let us know they will be back in the fall.
Many thanks to our fabulous group of dedicated volunteers. We look forward to serving again in September at the Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei. Come join us so that we can continue to perform this wonderful mitzvah.
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
