Chef Joan Zief organized a hearty and tasty meal for our MESH guests with the able assistance of sous chefs/packers Lynne Kurzweil, Susan Rosenblatt, Risa Bernstein and Carole Rothman.
We baked 100+ plump BBQ Chicken drumsticks, roasted huge crispy baked russet potato halves, semi-homemade cole slaw, and added a dinner roll, clementines, grapes, Oreo cookies and a water bottle.
We ended up with 48 chicken entrees, 2 vegetarian meals (veggie burgers instead of chicken) and 2 vegan entrees (veggie burgers and sautéed veggies instead of Cole slaw). We’ve been told there are now 2 vegans and 2 vegetarians who are frequent MESH guests.
With precision line speed, everything was packed and ready to go by 4 pm.
Lynne and Susan delivered the bags of meals to the open and welcoming arms of MESH Executive Director, Joe Granger and his crew of helpers. Joe always expresses his appreciation for all that we at Shomrei do for MESH.
For those interested in volunteering who are not available on Tuesday afternoons, we are brainstorming different ways to make it work. Let us know what would work for you.
Additionally, each Monday afternoon we deliver any usable food leftover from kiddish to MESH.

Shomrei provides 50 meals to MESH on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. We need volunteers to help prepare and pack the food.
