From Captain Fern Heinig:

I would like to start with wonderful news, one of our regular guests shared with me that she now has an apartment. She is so excited and grateful. Once she is settled, she plans on volunteering on Tuesday nights to pay back the kindness she has received at the Carol Starr Cafe.

The Chaos Crew hosted a full house of 24 guests at the Carol Starr Cafe and also provided 6 takeaway meals.

The crew performed as a well oiled machine, creating an awesome menu. The first course was fresh fruit salad followed by a mediterranean couscous salad. The main was sweet and hot meatballs with homemade mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. Dessert was a baked applesauce cake. We also cooked vegetarian chili for the non meat eaters. There were no leftovers.

We had some team promotions last night:
Jonah is now the team’s head baker (pictured in the back)
Henry (pictured front right) is the head sous chef
Taylor (pictured front left) is now manager of the front of house
The rest of the crew (from the left) is Deanna (first timer), Holly, Traci, Brian, Meg, and Theresa.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
