MESH Report Sept 17, 2019

MESH cafe logoFrom Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

This past Tuesday on a balmy late summer eve, we welcomed 24 grateful guests to the Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei. We provided one takeaway meal and accommodated one vegetarian. Chef Stuart Green whipped up a hearty and delicious feast starting with homemade guacamole, baby carrots and tortilla chips. A green salad with Italian dressing preceded the main course of turkey chili served over rice with a side of yummy sautéed baby peppers. Guests mopped up the gravy with toasty Italian bread.

Dessert was hand picked apples courtesy of Merrill and Andy Silver and assorted cookies. Helpers in the kitchen were Arden Epstein and Yours Truly and teen uber helpers Jonah and Zaniah. Our gracious Chaplain Interns, Lucy Segal and George James were so helpful in the dining room, serving, clearing and offering friendly encouragement to our guests. Our stellar MESH staff, Bonny, Joe and Tevin, ensured that all ran smoothly.

Sorry no pictures this week.

We’re set with a team of helpers for next week and then we’ll have a brief hiatus for two weeks as we observe the High Holy Days.

The schedule is wide open so please take the time to signup when we resume serving every Tuesday evening beginning October 15.

L’shana Tovah!

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
