Two Ways to Help Local Refugees

From Andy Silver:

We are organizing a Back-to-School Supplies Drive for the children in the refugee families whom we have been assisting. We need your help!

There are currently 18 school-age children, ranging in age from 4 to 16, in six of “our” families. The families have very little discretionary income to spend on school supplies; our goal is to help enable the children to have what they need to start the school year successfully.

To facilitate the drive, we have set up an Amazon wish list for a variety of supplies that have been requested. Please consider purchasing items on the list. The items vary in price, so we hope that all of our group’s members can participate in assisting the families.

To view the list and/or to make purchases, please use the following link: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2L751MTU950NM?ref_=wl_share. When you make a purchase, please be sure to choose the shipping address “Refugee Assistance Group’s Gift Registry Address” when you check out.

Once you make a purchase of an item on the list, it will be delivered to Shomrei. We will then make a delivery of the purchased items to the families around the beginning of the school year, which starts the first week in September. Please make your purchases as soon as possible so that we have all of the items ready for delivery.

If you prefer, instead of purchasing the items yourself online, you can make a financial contribution by writing a check to “Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund, Congregation Shomrei Emunah” and indicating on the memo line “For Refugee Assistance.”  Or donate online here: http://shomrei.org/refugee

We will use those funds for any unpurchased items on the list, or for other items needed by the families. Please send any checks to:

Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund
Congregation Shomrei Emunah
67 Park Street
Montclair, NJ 07042
