Shomrei Bids Farewell to Jorge Moreno

In a brief, but no less heartfelt gathering Rabbi David Greenstein, Marge Wise, Nick Levitin, Fern Heinig and Marc Chalom bid Jorge Moreno, Shomrei’s loyal and devoted custodian for the past 22 years, a fond farewell. A beautiful card expressing Shomrei’s appreciation written by Jerilyn Margulies was read and translated by Mark Chalom, and a gift (that was the result of generous contributions from our members) was presented to Jorge as a retirement gift from our community.

The group shared fond memories of Jorge’s years at Shomrei and then gave him a collective hug as they bid him farewell, with the congregation’s best wishes for a very happy and well earned retirement with his wife and family in Columbia.

When back in the States, Jorge promised to come by for a visit.

A Shimmering Shomrei Hanukkah Party

What an amazing Shomrei Hanukkah Party!  The moment the smell of frying latkes made its way around the building, I knew this was going to be an exciting night.  The JLC 7th grade students started the night off with a bang, with their homemade Hanukkah games and enthusiasm.  Children of all ages enjoyed pinning the tail on the menorah and trying to knock over large Hanukkah candles in the bean bag toss station.  We made edible menorahs and spun dreidels in paint, too, which made some beautiful designs.

4th Annual Purim Band
