An Historic Moment For Shomrei

Nick Levitin Makes IntroductionsGood News!

After two years of development and discussion within our community, the Board of Trustees voted last Thursday to recommend that Shomrei adopt a progressive new “Sustaining Share” system of membership, which would reinvent the way we define and think about synagogue membership. Now it is your turn. At the annual meeting taking place on Wednesday, May 27, the model will be put to a full congregational membership vote.

This is in many ways a historic moment, with the potential of bringing dramatic change to Shomrei. By shifting from a fee-for-service model to one of voluntary commitment of funds and volunteer hours to sustain our community, we are in the forefront of a movement to re-imagine what it means to be a sacred community. If the plan is approved, Shomrei would be the first synagogue in the area to adopt this innovative membership model.

Please mark your calendar to join us on Wednesday, May 27 at 7:30 PM for the annual membership meeting, which — for the first time — will be preceded by a community barbecue, sponsored by Board Executive Vice President, Fern Heinig. (Details to follow.)

And, if you haven’t already returned your Sustaining Share commitment form, please do so as soon as possible so that we can have a full and accurate reading of our financial resources as we enter the new fiscal year in June.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Fern Heinig (email hidden; JavaScript is required), Andy Silver (email hidden; JavaScript is required), or me.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Regards,
