Shabbat Your Way Message From Rabbi Julie

Dear Shomrei Community,

The last Shabbat Shabbat Your Way before the summer is on May 31.

I want to thank everyone who participated in Shabbat Your Way this year and especially everyone who opened up their homes. We hope you’ll continue to host people over the summer and we’ll officially pick up in the fall.

And please share your Shabbat story with us at email hidden; JavaScript is required.

Enjoy these highlights from April Shabbat Your Way:

Our Way to Connect – Michael Sag

Shabbat Your Way is a time for connection in our house. It’s new for us, but impactful for our family and those we’ve had to our home. Putting candles out in the morning helps us look forward to the special night.

A Passover Shabbat – Servenaz Singh
The Singh Family had the Kurzweill/Graff family over for Shabbat Your Way. At the dinner table, we discussed the dietary rules of Passover and the various ways we acknowledge them. It was a meaningful conversation with kids included that made us reflect on how rules affect our belief systems.

And this one from another Shabbat that was not during Passover (what gives it away?):

Have Challah, Will Travel – Sarita Eisenberg

Lou’s sister Bev does not do Shabbat dinner.

We go to her home for Thanksgiving weekend every year.  This year, inspired by Rabbi Julie’s Friendsgiving Shabbat Your way resource, Lou brought down the fixings to bake challah to have with Thanksgiving leftovers on Friday night.

Well we didn’t have leftovers; Bev ordered in pizza instead. But we did light candles and say the hamotzi blessing over the challah.

And when we went to visit her for a weekend in April, Lou asked her if we could do a repeat and she said ‘”Of course!” This time she cooked dinner.

As I said, Lou’s sister does not do Shabbat dinner … except when we come to visit.

Shabbat Shalom!
Rabbi Julie
