Report from Captain Sarita Eisenberg:

We had another full house with 24 guests at the MESH Café. Chef Lynne Kurzweil put together a light summer meal combining some new items with leftovers donated by the Rubin family from their son’s bar mitzvah Kiddush. Sarita Eisenberg and Susan Rosenblatt assisted with plating.

The meal started with falafel and pita with homemade tahini sauce. Next course was a homemade chilled mint-pea soup. Main course was a dairy platter of egg salad, tuna salad, cheese slices, lox with a bagel and cream cheese, onion, tomato and cucumber slices, and chopped Mediterranean salad. The desert course was two heaping plates, one of sliced fruit and another of pastries.

MESH staffers Adrienne and Joe mostly handled the serving, assisted by Lynne and Sarita. Susan manned the sink. Lynne scrubbed down the counters and carts, leaving everything cleaner than she found it.

Only one more week before we break for the summer.

About MESH:

The MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
