MESH 2016 feb 9

Report from Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

Last Tuesday night began with 20 guests, including 4 vegetarians.  Shortly before 7:15 pm, the MESH cutoff for allowing any more guests to enter a MESH Cafe, a father and 4 of his children arrived at Shomrei bringing our total to 25.  Some or all members of this family of seven (mother, father and 5 children ages 10 and under) have been coming to our cafe on most Tuesday nights for the past couple of months.

We started the meal with a delicious lentil, mushroom and barley soup prepared by Linda Ariel.  Next up, a lovely tossed salad that was leftover from Saturday’s kiddish.  The main course was salmon roasted with garlic, lemon, olive oil, parsley, dill and fennel served with smashed potatoes and roasted broccoli and cornbread.  Chocolate layer cake, also leftover from Shabbat, was gobbled up for dessert, along with a clementine for the road.  Everyone loved this meal!  Not a drop or a crumb remained!  Because we were able to repurpose food leftover from earlier events, the out of pocket cost for this meal was $90.

MESH 2016 feb 9 Joe MostOur stellar staff included Yechiel Felder as sous chef and Joe Most, all around go to guy in the kitchen.  Our amazing Shomrei teens who have become regulars, Amalia, Siona and Matt and first timer in a long time, Oliver, along with friends Teddy and Elisa, did a superb job setting up, serving, clearing and dish washing.  We also welcomed Shannon and Lexie, our two MSU students for this semester.  Always a pleasure to work with, was MESH staffer, Adrienne.

Many thanks to those who have answered my pleas for help.  Please continue to sign up for upcoming dates by using the signup sheet: http://www.shomrei.org/mesh or send me an email.

Healthy Regards,
Lynne
