From Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

image3We hosted 24 grateful seated guests and provided 6 takeaways this past Tuesday night. With the air temperature dipping slightly, chef du jour, Lynne Kurzweil, decided to start the meal off with some homemade Split Pea and Barley Soup. Our guests were ecstatic! They love soup. Many enjoyed 2-3 helpings until the pot was empty.

Main course included Turkey Burgers on a bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion and choice of condiments. We served a new recipe for Roasted Potatoes with roasted carrots, peppers and onions and Cole Slaw. Dessert was Layer Cake (leftover from weekend kiddish) served with Soy Ice Cream and Fresh Fruit Salad. Cost for the meal was an economical $119.59, due in part to a serendipitous manager’s special at Shoprite for the turkey burgers and the leftover cake.

image5Sous Chefs included Aileen Grossberg, Carol Mannes (friend of Lynne), Erin Berman and Susan Rosenblatt. Teen helpers were regulars Amalia, Siona and Matt and first timer, Jake. Bernardo Breziner came by to assist and also to bid us farewell. Bernardo, who is relocating to Texas, has been a consistent volunteer for MESH over the years. We will certainly miss Bernardo and wish him much mazel as he travels to his new home. MESH staffer, Bonny and Joseph, our new MESH security guard, helped to see that the evening ran smoothly.

Next Tuesday’s meal is covered but the schedule is open for succeeding weeks. Please sign up and remember to save the date for Shomrei’s MESH Kickoff Supper on Thursday, October 6th.

Healthy regards,
Lynne
