From Captain Linda Ariel:

On Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 24 hungry guests were served at the MESH Cafe at Congregation Shomrei Emunah. The chef, Sarah Steindel, was assisted by Sarita Eisenberg and Charles Steindel.

There were many people helping with serving, clean up, and washing the pots and pans. They included volunteers Erin Berman and Lou Hammerman and teens Amalia, Siona, Sebastian, Sam, Rachel, and Matt.  There were also four MASH staff who collaborated  in making the evening a smooth, welcoming environment.

The menu included minestrone soup served with warm bread and butter, sliced chicken breast with roasted broccoli, carrots, and potatoes. The potatoes were graciously donated by David and Shirley Grill. Brownies and fruit salad made a delicious dessert.

The guests enjoyed their meal with some having extra helpings of different courses of the meal. Fortunately, there was enough food prepared, so that the six people who were not able to participate were able to take their meals home to enjoy.

Everyone was in good spirits, the guests were very appreciative, and we all worked together like a well-oiled machine.

Linda Ariel

Linda has been a member of Shomrei for over three decades. Over the years, she has been Hebrew School Co-Chair, Program Chair, and Social Action Chair and co-chaired the first Shomrei retreat at the Nevele. Linda also led Tot Shabbat and Tot Rosh HaShana for many years. Linda has lived in Israel where she graduated from Hebrew University and then upon returning to the States received her master's degree in social work. Probably the most special and precious bit of information that she has to share is that her three sons are independent caring people with values that she respects.
