MESH Report 5/7/19

From Captain Alex Kent:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei hosted an Asian cuisine night on Tuesday, giving a new life to some delicious Chinese food repurposed from the Beatles Shabbat last Friday night. The food had been graciously donated by Aimee and David Brooks. Chef Lynne Kurzweil whipped up her own carrot and ginger soup, topped with Chinese noodles and parsley, followed by crowd favorites beef with broccoli, sesame chicken, lo-mein, vegetables in brown sauce, and rice. The meal was completed with fruit salad, and black and white cookies.

20 guests enjoyed the meal, with 13 requesting seconds to go. That’s gotta be a record!

Helpers included sous chef Aileen Grossberg, young folk Orly and Elana, and MESH stalwart Susan Rosenblatt on dishes and much more. Bonny, Adrienne, Joe, and Darrin from MESH rounded out the team.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
