MESH Report Dec 13, 2022

This week our MESH guests were treated to Chef Fern’s fabulous Mediterranean Feast including a special Chanukah treat.

On the Menu: Baked Salmon with Sliced Lemons and Yogurt Dill Sauce, Fern’s first ever batch of homemade Potato Latkes, Spring Mix Salad with Roasted Butternut Squash, Apple Sauce Cups, Rolls, Cookies, a Protein Bar and a water bottle.

The bursting meal bags were portioned and packed by long time, all around helper, Alex Kent and enthusiastic new recruit, Risa Bernstein.  Gail Stocks, also a welcome new MESH volunteer, picked up the bags at 4:45pm and delivered them to The Office. Gail stayed on to help Mr. Tyson greet the guests and pass out the meals.  She reported that all the bags had been distributed when a family of five showed up.  Kind and generous, Gail went to a nearby Chinese restaurant and purchased food for the hungry family.

Now that MESH has an indoor location where guests can sit down to enjoy their meals, we again have the opportunity to interact with those less fortunate in our community. Come join us and help participate in this important mitzvah.  Sign up at:  www.shomrei.org/mesh.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service at Shomrei has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
