MESH Report Feb 7, 2023

We had a terrific team preparing, packing and delivering a very hearty and nutritious meal to our MESH guests. Joan Zief and Lynne Kurzweil organized the meal around sumptuous vegan leftovers from Saturday’s kiddish, graciously donated by the Lucey family. Kitchen helpers were Alex Kent and teens Hailey and Jaden.

Humongous dark meat chicken quarters were roasted with a BBQ rub and served over a generous portion of sumptuous beans and rice.  On the side were three bean salad, quinoa vegetable salad and fresh fruit salad.  Each meal included a bagel, a breakfast bar, a water bottle and two types of cookies provided and packed by Rhonda Silver. Rhonda also delivered the 33 Grab N Go Bags (30 chicken dinners plus 3 vegetarian) to The Office for distribution by the MESH staff.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
