A rainy night was brightened with a nutritious and innovate meal created by Chef Lynne Kurzweil! We had 24 guests on site and an additional three take away meals.
The menu was basic and innovative…
Starter: A crunchy cabbage salad with a miso dressing (prepared by Aileen who made a special appearance to create this salad)
Main: Meat Loaf–shaped as an individual personal loaf–which cooked faster and was easy to serve! The sides were roasted potatoes, and peas and roasted carrots–really naturally sweet!
Dessert: Home baked brownies made by Lynne and a fresh cut fruit salad.
A special shout out to our able assistants: Jonah shaped the meat loafs very artfully; Orly and Elana cut the fruit precisely and perfectly–including the bananas!
Susan Rosenblatt, Beryl Hiller, and Kevin kept the kitchen operations moving smoothly–stepping in wherever needed. The front of the house was capably managed by Bonny and Joe. Our Montclair HS volunteers Jahiaida, Jordana and Jon were respectful and gracious as they served our guests–they are a super team!
All in all, on a rainy night, we offered a “comfort meal” to a full house of guests!
About MESH:
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
