MESH Report Jan 17, 2023

It was crunch time in the Shomrei kitchen on Tuesday night as Chef Aileen Grossberg ably assisted by Susan Rosenblatt, Alex Kent and teen Jaden prepared a meal that crunched.

A container of semi-homemade crunchy coleslaw were accompanied by crunchy fish fillets, tartar sauce, a sandwich roll and crunchy roasted carrots and broccoli with Parmesan cheese. Our new volunteer Lily provided home-baked crunchy crusted bread which we served with a pat of butter. A crunchy cookie or two and an orange rounded out the main meal. Each bag also contained a crunchy breakfast bar and a snack bag of popcorners for a crunchy treat. It was all washed down with a bottle of water. Betayavon.

Many thanks to Alex who also delivered the bags to the Office Restaurant where MESH’s guests are now gathering for dinner.

Fern Heinig is providing dinner next week. However, we still need someone to pack and deliver the food that Fern will be preparing at her home and dropping off at Shomrei.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
