MESH Report June 28 2022

MESH Report 6/28/22.
For The Carol Starr MESH Cafe’s last meal of the current year, co-chairs Aileen Grossberg  and Lynne Kurzweil along with chief packer and dishwasher Susan Rosenblatt were joined by our newest volunteer, Rabbi Greenstein who spent an hour or so away from his office to help prepare the evening’s meal.  Among his many other talents, Rabbi Greenstein is a very capable chopper.

Thanks to a bountiful weekend in Zelda’s and his honor, there was much food to repurpose. The generous meal consisted of egg salad with lox and crackers zucchini noodles, quinoa, and pomegranate baked salmon garnished with a dollop of cucumber and mango Israeli salad. This was all accompanied by a green salad, a container of potato salad and a warm roll.

Dessert consisted of a trio of rice pudding with blueberries, cookies and a container of fruit. The takeaway bag was rounded out with an egg muffin, a piece of french toast. and bottle of cold water.

While Shomrei officially stops preparing by the end of June, MESH needs do not stop. Although we will not be cooking during the summer, we will be supporting the MESH program with a monetary donation. Donations are always welcome.

Shomrei was among the first congregations to become involved with MESH. Except for Jewish holidays, we have rarely missed a week. We are proud to be part of this program.

Please think of joining us in September 2022 when we will again be preparing meals for Montclair’s food insecure population.

Take it from Rabbi Greenstein…it’s a mitzvah. And it’s fun cooking and talking.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at:
