MESH Report May 24, 2022

MESH coordinators and leftover magicians, Aileen Grossberg and Lynne Kurzweil,  put together a bountiful and varied meal for our our MESH guests. A whole-hearted thank you to The Lehr-Hahn family for donated extra food from Olyvia’s bat mitzvah celebration to this week’s MESH meal.

Our guests dined on a romaine and vegetable salad, a pot luck choice of macaroni and cheese (a Shomrei specialty), vegetable lo mein or penne with vodka sauce, all with a side of roasted broccoli seasoned with garlic and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. The main meal was accompanied by a large Portuguese roll.

A hearty serving of fresh fruit salad and a slice of cake rounded out the meal.

And, of course, each takeaway meal contained a breakfast bar and bottle of water.

We discovered this week that Mr. Joe Tyson’s wife helps at an organization that feeds the hungry every Thursday. We were able to send Joe (the man who picks up and delivers the meals) away with some produce and other items. So nothing was wasted.

There are a few more weeks of MESH. Come join the MESH squad. You don’t cook alone and you fulfill the important mitzvah of feeding the hungry. Click here to sign up:

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
