Refugee Assistance Group Update — October 25, 2018

refugee_committee_lg2

We will be visiting the refugee families in Elizabeth on Monday and would like to bring them as many needed items as possible at that time.  We’ve compiled the requested items on the following list: http://signup.com/go/PGuRfLE.  If you can possibly donate any items, please sign up online and drop off the items in the box in Shomrei’s lobby by October 28 if you possibly can.

Over the past couple of months we’ve supplied four donated laptops to the families.  However, some of the families still do not have a computer but would like one, if possible.  If you have an old laptop that you no longer need, please consider donating it.  It doesn’t matter if it is a Mac or a Windows machine, as long as it can run a currently supported operating system.  We will either reformat or replace your hard drive, and install a clean version of the operating system.  If you are buying a new machine, we can assist you with moving data from the old machine to the new one.

Please note — Your company may be willing to donate old laptops.  It may be as simple as asking your IT Manager.

If you’d like more information about donating a laptop, please contact Mike (email hidden; JavaScript is required).

We’re engaging in an exciting experiment!  We’ve found a volunteer to go to Elizabeth to tutor one of the family members in English, one on one, once a week.  We hope this will help smooth the way to increased self-reliance and to obtaining a job.  If you’re also interested in tutoring, please contact Andy (email hidden; JavaScript is required).

As always, thank you for your continuing support.

Regards,
Judith, Mike, and Andy
