What to Expect on the High Holidays

I’m excited to bring you an update of what we have in store for our virtual High Holiday experience.  Thanks to the participation of so many of our members, this experience will be a rich and heartwarming reflection of the Shomrei community.  Here’s a little taste of what to expect during the month of Elul (the preparatory month leading up to the High Holidays) and what to expect during our High Holiday services.

Elul Programming in Preparation for the Holidays:

  • Daily (M-Th) interactive Facebook prompt providing inspiration leading up to this year’s holiday observance
  • @nourish for the High Holidays 3-part series by guest speakers: Music, Spirituality, and Social Justice – September 1, 8, and 15

High Holiday Services (stay tuned for a detailed schedule coming in September!) will include:

  • Livestreamed services led by Rabbi Greenstein
  • Pre-recorded participation from over one hundred of our community members
  • Erev Rosh Hashanah and Kol Nidre services on Zoom
  • Torah and Haftarah Readings and Reflections
  • Music
  • Yizkor Service
  • Preschool-Friendly Services
  • School-Aged Family Service Led by K-12 Shomrei Families
  • Teen Talks
  • In-Person Community Shofar-Blowing (Rosh Hashanah Day 2)
  • Zoom Havdalah with glow sticks at the end of Yom Kippur
  • Self-Guided Tashlich Service for the interim days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
