Months ago Shomrei held a public meeting about the tragedy unfolding in Syria. As we know, the situation has deteriorated to a heart-breaking level. While the political situation is so complex as to seem beyond direct solution, to do any small thing to lessen the suffering of even one human being is intrinsically a duty of infinite importance, incumbent on each of us. As the Masorti (Conservative) Movement in Israel has declared, this is the Torah’s call to each of us: “You shall not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor: I am the Eternal One” (Lev. 19:16)
