During the last four decades obesity has become epidemic. From 1970 to 2000 the prevalence of obesity has more than doubled to over 30% nationwide. As the prevalence of obesity increased so has the prevalence of diabetes and other diseases associated with obesity.

On Sunday, April 3, at 4 p.m., Montclair cardiologist Dr. Kenneth Bannerman, and registered dietitian Susan Canonico will present Weight Loss: Taking it Off, Keeping it Off. The talk is free and open to the public at Congregation Shomrei Emunah, 67 Park Street, Montclair. For more information, contact the synagogue office at 973-746-5031.

Topics to be discussed will include why are Americans gaining so much weight, why dieting often does not work, how you can convert diet into lifestyle and what are the very real obstacles preventing you from losing weight or maintaining weight loss once it is achieved. There are no easy tricks, but there are many steps you can take to increase your chances of achieving and maintaining a more healthy weight.
