Refugee Assistance: Helping Afghan Families

refugee_committee_lg2

We have been researching the best ways to provide support to Afghan families who are being resettled in our region. As a start, we are teaming up with the grass roots organization One World, One Love, which has done amazing work with many refugee families during the past few years. The organization is now starting to help the Special Immigration Visa (SIV) families who are arriving in our area from Afghanistan — 10 families (approximately 50 people) so far, with many more expected to come. They have asked us to help provide the following items for the new homes that are being set up for the families:

  • Bath Towels
  • Hand towels
  • Washcloth
  • Kitchen towels
  • Pot holders
  • Twin bed sheet sets

If you would like to help, we are collecting those items — in new (preferred) or very gently used condition only, please — in designated boxes in the synagogue lobby, through September 30. Alternatively, if you would like to order the items online and have the them delivered directly to the Refugee Assistance Group, we have set up an Amazon Wishlist. Please be sure to select Refugee Assistance Group’s Gift Registry Address as the delivery address. We expect that we will be updating the list of items in the future as we learn more about the families’ specific needs.

You can also help with cash donations.

We are continuing to broaden and deepen our ties with other refugee organizations to develop additional ways to assist the Afghan refugees and will provide updates along the way.

Thank you for your assistance and generosity.

Regards,
Judith, Mike, and Andy
