It’s Library Month

Lampert libraryFrom the Lampert Library

September is library card sign-up month. Libraries are getting even more use than ever before.

Once known as the People’s University, today libraries provide entertainment, instruction, access to computers, and a host of other services.

Patrons don’t even have to leave their homes to use the library. Online catalogs give access to downloadable books and music. Sophisticated databases provide resources for research. Digital magazine collections let the reader browse his or her favorite magazine with subscribing or leaving that comfortable chair.

Of course, the library patron misses interacting with other people and the face-to-face experience by visiting the library virtually. Art exhibits, copying services, maker spaces, lectures, concerts, storytimes, and myriad more programs are available at the library.

And, of course, the reader can actually see the books before borrowing them.

librarysept22The Lampert Library can’t offer as many services as our wonderful Montclair Public Library, but our holdings are on line at Shomrei.org/library. We offer storytimes to the preschool and are available to help anyone with a question. The Lampert Library is also very happy to fill special requests as long as the desired book fits into the Library’s overall collection development plan.

During this special month-and every month- think of the Lampert Library when you think of books or films.
But remember…it’s everyone’s library. Please return what you borrow and return it in the same good condition. We use the honor system. Be honorable. It’s Elul.

  1. Bravo and mazel tov to Aileen for managing our growingly wonderful library, in addition to everything she does with Shabbat and holiday food! I’ve been doing my bit to help digitize the collection, under Aileen’s gentle direction, and I am amazed at both the quantity and quality of our books. If all you know of the library is the rotating selections Aileen puts on the table in the Gallery, you should checkout the rest of the holdings online. Thank you, Aileen.
