Shabbat Your Way Message From Rabbi Julie

Dear Shomrei Community,

Every Friday night when we bless the wine for Kiddush, we sing both of the creation of the world and the exodus from Egypt. It’s a reminder that it is only as free people that we can pause our work and celebrate Shabbat. And this year, the one and only Shabbat during Passover falls on Shabbat Your Way!

Even though there won’t be any challah, we encourage you to have or host Shabbat Your Way on April 26.

And please share your Shabbat Passover story with us at email hidden; JavaScript is required.

Enjoy these highlights from March Shabbat Your Way:

Hockey Team Shabbat- Allison Task

Zev Task hosting Shabbat for his hockey team at the St Patricks Day tournament in the lobby of the Red Lion hotel in Hershey, PA. Fun fact: 30% of Zevs hockey team is Jewish! Another fun fact: they competed against an all-orthodox team, and the tournament ensured this team would have no games on Shabbat. Shabbat your way!

L’dor Vador (From Generation to Generation) – Rita Singer

For Friday night dinner, my son Marshall and Family always came to my house and then apartment for Shabbat Dinner. In January I realized that my age was showing. After dinner I was so tired, I just wanted to go to bed.

So now Marshall and his wife Rita have taken over Shabbat Dinner on Friday night. Hooray!!! I take an E-Z ride Uber to there apartment in Clifton and bring homemade chale and dessert. We schmooze for a while after dinner and then Marshall drives me home. When my grandson Harry can not come, he connects on the internet and we have “dinner” together.

Shabbat in Uzbekistan – Sarita Eisenberg

We spent two Shabbatot in Uzbekistan. The first Shabbat was in Bukhara at the home of a Muslim family who specialize in cooking for Israeli tour groups. The second was in a restaurant in Samarkand.
