Shalom to All –

Over the last weeks the long developing refugee crisis in Africa, the Middle East and Europe has garnered urgent attention. This is a crisis of global proportions and requires that we meet that challenge with compassion, generosity, wisdom and courage.

At Shomrei we have read aloud the poem “Home” by Warsan Shire that gives voice to the terrible pain and to the fears of all involved.

I urge you to reach out to the website of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society – HIAS – http://www.hias.org – a venerable organization that has always tried to help refugees and immigrants here, in Israel and worldwide. Please consider donating to their efforts and participating in their petition to urge our government to be a force for a good response to this challenge.

May we all merit a Sweet New Year.
