The Evolution of Shomrei Communications

ke_printThere’s an old saying: nothing endures but change.  Change has come to communications at Shomrei. We’re taking advantage of modern, low-cost (and, we hope, effective) ways of communicating.

Our goal across all communication “channels” will stay the same: to provide congregants with timely announcements about upcoming programs as well as  articles and commentary that inform and create connections across the Shomrei community.

How we accomplish this goal is changing.

ShomreiWeek
Our weekly email newsletter is the venue for announcements about services and other programs. You should be receiving this already, every Thursday around 5pm (just in time for the evening commute!). If you are not, please let us know.

Event Flyers
From time to time we’ll also send out program flyers, with specifics about the program as well as links to online RSVP’s. We understand you don’t want to get too many of these, and we’ll try not to send too many. However, congregants who’ve stepped-up to organize programs ask us to send the flyers because they’ve worked so hard to make the event happen. Please just realize it’s a hard balance to achieve!

Kol Emunah Blog
KolEmunah.net (our online blog) has become the new “Voice of Shomrei Emunah.” Articles will be posted on a rolling basis and can be viewed as soon as they are posted.  You can sign up to receive notifications about new articles. (You can also link to articles through ShomreiWeek.)  The blog is meant to contain YOUR voice!  If you are part of the Shomrei community and want to post an article, please do!

Kol Emunah in Print
At the beginning of each month, all of the articles posted on the blog during the previous month will be compiled and printed. The printed Kol Emunah will look a lot like the old Kol Emunah. You’ll find monthly articles from president Nick Levitin, Rabbi Greenstein, Executive Director Marge Wise, Education Director Sara Birnbaum, Preschool Director Heather Brown, and Librarian Aileen Grossberg. You’ll see reports about events during the previous month. And there will be other articles from and about Shomrei members.

What you won’t see are program announcements. These are included in ShomreiWeek. We can deliver more timely information directly to your email inbox rather than waiting to print announcements in Kol Emunah.  And we can deliver more complete program information as well since we frequently don’t have all programs planned out a month in advance in time for the print edition.

You Are in Control!
Because we’re using modern online tools, you are in complete control of the kinds of email notices you receive! At the bottom of every promotional email, clicking the “adjust your preferences” link will allow you to control which categories of items you receive.

Opt-in For Print Version of Kol Emunah
If you wish to continue to receive a print version of Kol Emunah, you may do so. We hope you’ll give the online version a try as it saves the Congregation money, but we’d rather you read it!  So, if blogs just aren’t “your thing” please opt-in for the print version.  Congregants without online access (we have a list) will continue to receive a monthly print-out of the articles posted on KolEmunah.net during the past month automatically, no opt-in necessary.  We’ll also post a copy of the printed Kol Emunah on ShomreiWeek in pdf form, so you can print it yourself if you like.
