Welcome, Barbara Miller

Miller, BarbaraWe’d like to welcome Barbara Miller to the Shomrei community!

Barbara Miller joined Shomrei just before the High Holidays this year.
She moved from Manhattan to Montclair 50 years ago when her first husband, a physician, joined a practice here.

She was a lobbyist for Bristol-Myers Squibb in Trenton and Washington, DC for 15 years – a job she thoroughly enjoyed given that her passion is politics. Barbara even ran for the assembly in Trenton, but lost and was happy to return to her work as a lobbyist.

For the past 18 years Barbara has been an International Elections Observer traveling around the world to monitor elections.

During this time, Barbara remarried and hasn’t been a member of a synagogue for many years — since her daughters were Bat Mitzvah. However, she recently felt it was time to return. Her neighbors, and long time Shomrei members, Pete and Marie Hoffman, insisted she come to Shomrei to check it out. She says Pete “drove her crazy” trying to get her to come and that he is the best advocate Shomrei could hope to have.
She loves the Rabbi, thinks he is terrific, comes to services, enjoys the Israel Cinema Café, and having been very active in the League of Women Voters for many years, finds that she knows a number of people at Shomrei already. She is happy to belong to a synagogue again and grateful to Pete Hoffman for his determination and tenacity!

We are delighted that Barbara is now a member of the Shomrei family!
