The New JLC – A Test Drive

On Monday night, the JLC leadership team had the pleasure of taking a test run with (just a taste of) our new school materials. We staged a photo shoot with a handful of our adorable JLC students, and the room was abuzz with excitement. We believe that when provided with meaningful materials and caring facilitators, children can be trusted to explore, invent, create, and learn. That’s why we are invested in providing our community with a child-centered learning environment and a thoughtfully-crafted school space.

Meet Aylah Winter, New Assistant Education Director

1511_Winter_015Aylah Winter has been named as one of Shomrei’s new Assistant Education Directors. She, Lily Lucey and Education Director, Heather Brown will run both the JLC (Hebrew School) and Shomrei Preschool.

Since moving to Montclair three years ago Aylah has become involved in the Shomrei community. She has served on the education board for the past two years and worked in the preschool as an assistant teacher. Over the last year she also worked to coordinate travel to Israel for individuals, families and groups with a private tour operator. Continue reading

Splish Splash!

Last Sunday, June and Bela Schwartz graciously opened up their home to families at Shomrei for a Summer pool party.  Preschool, JLC, and potential families all joined together in the backyard for swimming, a BBQ, lawn games, trampoline fun, and more.  Not only was June a gracious hostess, mingling with new friends and old, but she also commented how much she enjoyed having an opportunity for JLC and Preschool families to connect.

Happy Campers

summer camp 3 visors

Shomrei’s summer camp is making children ages 2-5 into some very happy campers this year!  We have over 25 children enrolled, who attend camp Mon-Thurs for plenty of fresh air, water play, messy sensory activities, friendships, and fun.  Many campers are brand new to Shomrei, and they look forward to beginning the Preschool in the fall.  Parents are thrilled to have a safe place for their young children to go each day, knowing they will experience something new each day and come home thoroughly exhausted. Meet Lily Lucey, New Assistant Education Director

Lily LuceyFor the past twelve years, Lily has worked at Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater, Florida. She served as B’nai Mitzvah Teacher & Coordinator, prayer and song leader, cantorial soloist at synagogue and community events, religious school music teacher, and was often involved with synagogue and holiday programming. She is passionate about teaching Torah and Haftarah trope and Shabbat t’filot to students and their families with the hope that they will carry these skills with them for their future participation in synagogue life. She believes strongly in the importance of establishing relationships with students and families as they find their personal relationships with the Jewish experience.
