Think Kosher-ly, Act Locally

Stop-and-shop logoHere’s some good news for those of you mourning the closing of the Acme Supermarket. Stop & Shop has added kosher meat, cheeses, and extended the packaged food department.

I asked if this was temporary because of Passover and was told that they will be adding more kosher goods.

As a New Englander, I grew up with Stop & Shop so have a soft spot in my heart for the market. However, I’ve found that the prices are generally competitive, the house brands are good, the produce seems fresh, and a lot of the products are unique to that market.

You may know that the bakery is already kosher dairy and turns out tasty and attractive cakes, cookies, and bread.

If the perishables don’t move, the store will eliminate them as Fairway has recently done. So instead of going to West Orange for kosher goods, try Stop & Shop. It’s just a couple of minutes beyond the Brookdale Shoprite on Broad Street across from Ploch’s Nursery.
Happy shopping.

  1. Yaaaaayyyyy!! Thanks for posting this! I was pretty freaked out when I drove into the lot at Acme and saw that it was gone. Been going to Passaic, Kosher Konnection. But now I will go back to Stop & Shop more often!

What do you think?
