600 Done and …. to go

Notes From the Lampert Library

opals1Hopefully, you’re aware that the Lampert Library recently leapt into the modern age. We are on line.

In the last few weeks we have entered about 400 books into the library’s database. That’s about ten percent of the collection.

As books get borrowed, they get entered. The picture book collection for young readers is almost completely searchable. Most of the books on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, for both adult and young readers, are entered. All the recently purchased books are searchable.

The system is very easy to use and will make it convenient for all members of the Shomrei community to look for items in the Lampert Library’s collection, including DVDs and magazines. So, if you are looking for a picture book about kindness, you can search by that word. If you want something about Rosh Hashanah, use that term.

OPALS2It’ll be a while before everything is entered, but I’d like to encourage you to use the catalog, reserve books by sending an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required, or come into the library and browse.

Thank you to Bill Batkay and Jennifer Moss for their help with data entry.  If you’d like to help with the data entry, please contact me at email hidden; JavaScript is required . It’s not difficult and can be done at home after some training in the library.

The check- out system for Shabbat will remain the same. After Shabbat, I will enter the information in the computer and there will now be a searchable record of each book and its borrower.

As always, please attach your family card to the book’s card or –when it’s not Shabbat- clearly print your name on the book card and leave it on the name file.

The link to the catalog is available on the Shomrei website’s home page, www.shomrei.org.
