Lambert Library Update

From the Lampert Library

billwclyde4The following is a brief update on the computerization project that the Lampert Library started in the summer of 2015.

With the invaluable help of Bill Batkay, who has done a tremendous job of entering data, the library now has over 2400 items in the searchable database. That’s a bit more than an estimated half of what’s in the Lampert Library.

All of the adult nonfiction except for the history and biography sections are available for online browsing. All of the children’s nonfiction items except for biography are also available.

Any items acquired since July of 2015 are also searchable by author, title, subject and keyword…just like you would search in the public library database.

Aileen Grossberg in libraryAll the fiction, the young adult, and reference sections still need to be entered over the next few months.

If you visit the library, located next to the Rabbi’s office, you’ll find that the shelves are a little less crowded as outdated items have been discarded. Some items that were damaged have been mended or repurchased.

You’ll be amazed and delighted by what you’ll find on the library’s shelves. You can even make a personalized list and print it out by going to the catalog site, shomrei.org/library or link from Shomrei’s website.

So do look at the weekly display in the Gallery: right now there are books featuring Jewish detectives and law enforcement. But also drop into the library on the first floor. There is so much to discover: books, magazines, DVD’s, music, and a large selection of general interest books for pre-school and primary school aged readers.

Remember, if you are looking for Jewish oriented books, check us first. The Lampert Library is also very happy to consider requests from congregants for books that fit the library’s profile.

  1. Aileen, you are too kind, as usual. Your organizational skill, dedication and perseverance are what are carrying the day. The truth is, I love doing the data entry, in part because it has opened up a whole new world of Jewish books for me. I had had no idea that our library was such a rich resource, and I am happy to be making more and more frequent use of it. You go, girl!!!

What do you think?
