MESH Report Dec 10, 2019

From Captain Sarah Kravits:

This past Tuesday evening, 25 guests came in out of the rain and were treated to a warm and tasty meal prepared by chef Stuart Green.

Captain Sarah Kravits, along with adult volunteers Cheryl and Meredith, directed an energetic and experienced crew of young workers including Delia, Lauren, Abby, Hailey, Ashlyn, Elana, Orly, and Gabriel.

The meal began with chips and salsa and a plate of a variety of roasted vegetables contributed by Shabbat’s farewell kiddush, followed by a main course of turkey chili over rice accompanied by cole slaw and bread, and wound up with a dessert of cookies and clementines.

MESH regulars Joe and K’hari kept everything moving smoothly with our guests. Nyack College volunteers Devona and Blanca came in to complete the team.

Dishes got clean, vegetarians were accommodated, seconds were served when requested, and the evening’s primary goal of nourishment was achieved. Thanks to all who pitched in.

MESH is collecting blankets for its respite site that provides shelter on extremely cold nights. Contact Aileen (email hidden; JavaScript is required) or Lynne (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for further information.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
