From Captain Linda Ariel:

It was an overcast evening, yet this did not interfere with the Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei having a full house of guests. John Lasiter, chef par excellence, was assisted by Elliot Fischer in preparing a scrumptious dinner of appetizers of popovers and latkes, followed by the main course of barbecued chicken, cole slaw, roasted potatoes, bread and margarine.

The vegetarians in the group were served the meatless patties in lieu of the chicken. For dessert, our guests enjoyed fresh baked brownies with parev vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was so delicious that several of the those who dined with us requested the manufacturer’s name, so that they might purchase it for themselves in the future. This was an incredibly grateful group who enjoyed the cuisine as well as the pleasant company and ambiance.

Thank you to the MESH staff of Bonny, Joe, and Rev for so actively working with us to make the evening such a success.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
