The team of Sarita Eisenberg, Lou Hammerman and Linda Ariel whipped up 30 meals and had them bagged and ready to go when Aileen Grossberg arrived at 4:45pm to bring them over to MESH.
The meal included baked tilapia in a Dijon-Lemon sauce, spinach rice, and roasted carrots. Each meal also included slices of Italian bread, Oreo cookies (always a hit), a cup of applesauce, a breakfast bar and water.
I had never made instant rice before and was a bit anxious about whether we would have enough (we cooked up an entire large box) and whether it would actually get cooked – but it came out perfectly with an overflowing serving spoonful for each meal.

About MESH:
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
