All Hail the MESHies!

MESH-ShomreiFor the last four years, every week they have come. Who are they? They are a dedicated group of volunteers- kids, teens, boomers, empty nesters, and  seniors- who prepare and serve a delicious, nutritious , and, at times, gourmet meal at the MESH Café.

On Sunday, June 12, on the first day of the holiday of Shavuot, Shomrei Emunah will recognize and honor its MESH volunteers.  After the morning service on this holiday which celebrates the giving of the Torah- the Five Books of Moses- at Mount Sinai, Dr. Gwen Parker-Ames, executive director of MESH, will speak about the community effort to provide meals and winter respite to some of Montclair’s most needy adults.

MESH has a natural tie-in to the Shavuot holiday. On the second day of Shavuot, congregations in the Diaspora will read the Book of Ruth with its description of gleaning, the commandment to leave the corners of a field untouched and allow the needy to follow the reapers so that the poor might gather the bounty of the land.

MESHFollowing Dr. Parker-Ames’s remarks, MESH volunteers will be recognized and the entire congregation and guests will be feted to a festive Shavuot luncheon.

Shomrei Emunah is proud to be a MESH Partner and to provide a warm, congenial site for MESH guests at the MESH Café every week from September to June.
