MESH 1 2016 apr 26

From Captain Aileen Grossberg:

Though the skies opened in the afternoon, the guests at the Shomrei Passover MESH Cafe were nice and dry. Co-chefs Aileen Grossberg and Lynne Kurzweil served up a you-almost-would-not know-it’s Passover meal for 24 guests including one child on Tuesday night. Sarita Eisenberg provided a spring green zucchini /watercress soup to which MESH 2 2016 apr 26we added crunchy snap peas and sweet carrots and served with matzah farfel. The soup was followed by semi-homemade cole slaw, simple but elegant baked salmon, quinoa with sautéed mushrooms, asparagus and leeks, roasted vegetable kugel, fruit and a selection of pastries including cookies made by Aileen at Shomrei. (If you come to services Friday or Saturday you’ll get a chance to sample them, especially the rocky road brownies.) The three vegetarian guests appreciated the meal that was heavy on vegetables and fruit.

MESH 3 2016 apr 26The teen helpers, Gus, Amalia, Matt, Rachel, Teddy and Louis, were indispensable, as usual. Shannon and Lexie, Montclair State students, joined us for the last time as their internships are over. We hope to see them back when they do service for their sororities. Adrienne, Bonny and Devlin from the MESH staff operated with great efficiency as always. Who said Passover would be a challenge? Except for the matzah on the tables, you’d never know we were cooking under different rules. Shomrei’s MESHMESH 4 2016 apr 26 Cafe can rise to any occasion. The guests left satisfied with kudos for the cooks. Word has it that they love coming to Shomrei because we are the only MESH cafe that serves fish. And we pride ourselves on varied, healthful meals.
