MESH2 2016 april 19

From Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

MESH 2016 april 19Maybe it’s due to more hours of sunlight or the beautiful spring weather, but there was a carefree air to Shomrei’s MESH Cafe this past Tuesday evening.  We cooked in the downstairs kitchen and served in the YAC because the upstairs kitchen had already been kashered for Passover.

Master Balabusta (sp) Aileen Grossberg and Assistant Balabusta Lynne Kurzweil planned and prepared a hearty and tasty meal using mostly items from the freezer, refrigerator and pantry so we could “clean out”. We served 22 guests and provided 3 takeaway meals.

MESH4 2016 april 19Starter was macaroni salad with crudités and individual hummus cups.  Main course was eggplant Parmesan, baked rigatoni, roasted cauliflower, peppers, carrots and onions and a tossed salad with “combo” dressing.  Also garlic bread.

For dessert, we served fresh strawberries and cantaloupe and a chocolate sheet cake with a rainbow on it in honor of 3 birthday celebrants, Aileen, Lynne and Bonny, our former MSU student and now MESH staffer.  Candles were lit, the song was sung and our guests treated us with a round of applause!

MESH3 2016 april 19Our teen helpers were Amalia, Siona, Elisa, Gus and Louis.  It is a pleasure to work with these wonderful kids.  They are enthusiastic and caring and so happy to be helping out.  Also on hand were Lexie and Shannon, MSU students for the semester and MESH staffers Adrienne, Bonny and Devlin.

Aileen and Lynne will be preparing next week’s Passover meal but the schedule for May and June is wide open.  We have 9 more weeks until we break for July and August.  Please sign up and join us in performing this wonderful mitzvah.

Healthy Regards,
Lynne
