We need you!!! Shomrei has cut back to providing 2 meals every month – down from our decade long commitment of every Tuesday evening. If we consolidate our people power we hope to be able to provide 50 meals twice monthly without the task repeatedly falling on the shoulders of a few dedicated volunteers. The 2nd and 4th Tuesdays will be our dates and we usually begin preparing at 2 pm.
Here are the dates through the end of 2023:
Tuesday- 9/12/23, 9/26/23
Tuesday- 10/10/23, 10/24/23
Tuesday- 11/7/23, 11/21/23
Tuesday- 12/12/23, 12/26/23
For kids in school and working adults, there is an opportunity to help out on the same Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 pm at the former The Office restaurant- 619 Bloomfield Ave in Montclair. Help is needed to distribute the meals and visit with the MESH guests. If we have helpers in advance, we can transport the food in bulk and dish out the meal on site. A more pleasant experience for the meal recipient and definitely for the volunteer!

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for Hope) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
