MESH Report Feb 28, 2023

Our MESH guests were treated, once again, to Chef Fern’s Mediterranean Salmon Feast which includes: Baked Salmon w/Tzatziki and Sliced lemons, Cous Cous and Cucumber Salad, Green bean and Potato Salad, Clementines, Rolls, Kind Bars, Simcha Chocolate Rugglach (leftover from the Nowicki bris earlier in the morning) and a water bottle.

Ace MESH Helper, Susan Rosenblatt, along with Shomrei Uber Volunteer, Shirley Grill, portioned and packed the bags which were ready and waiting for pickup by All Star Shomrei Volunteer and MESH CoChair, Aileen Grossberg, who transported the meals to The Office where MESH Staff distribute the meals and provide a safe, warm and welcoming haven from 4:30-6:30 pm, 6 nights a week.

Here is a note from Fern to all potential MESH volunteers:

I am happy to give a 1:1 MESH lesson on:

  • Planning menu
  • Buying the food and amounts
  • Shomrei Kitchen Awareness (or how to cook in your own kitchen – it is not difficult)

If anyone is interested, just reach out to me at 973-356-2660 (Fern Heinig)

Well, there you go! An offer you can’t refuse!

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
